Abstract

This study aims to design and implement a preventive maintenance strategy using the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) approach on spindle machines at PT. Raffa Helical Bronze, with a primary focus on reducing spindle component failures. The RCM method is used to identify key equipment functions, possible failure modes, and develop effective maintenance strategies. Data were collected through direct observation, technician interviews, internal documentation, and historical failure analysis. The results showed that the spindle is the critical component that most often experiences damage in the form of overheating, rough noise, and high vibration. Through the application of FMEA, the highest Risk Priority Number (RPN) value was obtained for spindle overheat damage, which was 280. With the implementation of periodic preventive maintenance such as bearing lubrication, coolant checking, and calibration, the MTBF value increased from 143 hours to ±250 hours, and MTTR decreased from 7 hours to ±3 hours. The application of RCM has proven effective in reducing the frequency of spindle failures and increasing the efficiency and efficiency of spindle machines. This strategy can be used as a reference in a risk-based maintenance program to improve operational performance and reduce downtime in the manufacturing industry environment.
